Some Dangers of Quick Weight Loss Diets

Announcing the amazing miracle weight loss system that can make you lose 10 pounds in 10 days no matter what you eat! ¬†Eat as much as you want, eat more than you want, eat double what you want, and still lose weight with no exercise! ¬†Drop one pant size in a day, but beware because this might work so well you’ll pop out of existence! If these advertising claims are true then fast weight loss is the miracle reality of the modern world, requiring no effort on the dieter’s part.

And now a word from the medical community – Hogwash!

Even though those claims are mostly untrue, the Atkins diet plan does work but, with some effort on your part. ¬†Americans spend over 40 billion dollars a year on pills, programs and weight loss products that simply don’t work. That doesn’t stop people from coming up with all sorts of crazy diets and weight loss products. ¬†Remember Beyonce’s starvation “master cleanse” diet? ¬†It consisted of taking in nothing but lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water. Seriously! ¬†It also claimed to cleans the system from years of built up toxins. ¬†Who knew, maple syrup destroys toxins. ¬†Next time a poisonous snake bites someone have them eat some pancakes with plenty of Mrs. Butterworth’s.

Then there are the magic pills, creams, and diet supplements that guarantee to burn pounds without exercise; guaranteed. ¬†No that wasn’t a typo, these ads mention the word guarantee so often it has no meaning left. And when they don’t mention exactly what is involved in the “guarantee” it has even less meaning. Is that possible? ¬†It’s simply a way of propping up the miracle product so people actually think it works.

One diet that works, (and there are studies to prove it) is the VLCD or Very Low Calorie Diet. It’s often sold to people for home use to drop a few pounds. That’s a big problem though because of their nature of this diet. VLCD’s are extreme diets designed for morbidly obese people. These diets often have people eat half or less of their daily recommended caloric intake. They’re designed to be implemented in medically supervised closed settings usually called a “fat farm”, where people can’t cheat.¬† When used outside of a closed setting, these diets can be dangerous to dieter’s health and will generally not work because of binge eating after a period of partial starvation.

The Atkins diet free plan can work, but can create a number of problems with the body if not properly supervised by a doctor. Painful Gallstones develop in up to 25% of people who lose large amounts of weight over a few months. Careless dieters can often become dehydrated because they don’t realize a large portion of the water people need to drink comes from foods. It’s easy to compensate for this by drinking more water. Malnutrition can develop from not eating enough protein over a long period of time. The body can even become unable to process protein, which leads to serious illness and even death.

Using a quick weight loss “diet” can have some dramatic effects if not used with a clinician.¬† There are a number of risks associated with “going on your own” that may not even be felt until some major damage is done. ¬†Now The Atkins diet plan is a great idea, but it’s not for everyone and should be administered and supervised by qualified medical professionals.

Everyone wants a miraculous quick-fix for their weight problem. And there are almost as many shysters out there as there are folks who are willing to do anything to lose weight. What they all tend to forget is that it took quite some time to gain all that weight, so it’s going to take some time and effort to get rid of it. (thus endeth the lecture from the voice of experience – you may resume regular broadcasting….)

Everybody wants the effortless shortcut and there more than enough snake oil salesmen to help them out. The apple cider vinegar diet was a personal favourite from an observer’s POV. It was lose a lb. a day by taking an apple cider vinegar capsule a day. Sigh. Too good to be true? Count on it.

You both know (from experience) that this kind of promise is too soon broken. Too soon old, too late smart !

I’ve seen a lot of very clean pigs down at the “Hogwash!” Not to thin, however :-)

I don’t have a problem with some of the more, radical diets, shall we say, used in serious cases or as a jump start to weight loss. Transitioning off the diet to a more sustainable lifestyle must be included in the plan however, or it’s back in the mud!

Who doesn’t want a quick fix? I can’t deny that I would love it. We just have to remember that they are too good to be true. Either they’re hoxes, compromise your healthy, and losing pounds doesn’t always mean losing only fat.
