Aerobic Music to Enhance Your Workout
Tom Rooney
Signs of aerobic music can be seen anywhere people exercise. Aerobic music can be broadcast through a gym’s sound system, on the aerobics room’s speakers and through various MP3 players worn by exercisers everywhere. If you have not yet jumped on the bandwagon of listening to aerobic music while you workout, here are some great reasons to start now:
- Clear your mind. One of the biggest benefits of exercise is to help you distress. Most exercise automatically helps you physically distress simply by the nature of the activity but some people need that extra help mentally distressing. Listening to aerobic music can help you clear your mind of anything and everything that is stressing you out. Many people often find that they get so into their aerobic music that they forget about all of the reasons they don’t want to exercise, such as fatigue, and instead find themselves pushing themselves through with the music.
- Send cues. If you have a workout play list on your personal music player you can set up the music to send cues about the intensity of your workout. At the beginning of the workout you can have moderately paced aerobic music to help with your warm up. The middle should be fast, vigorous music you enjoy and that will get you moving – soon you’ll find that you’re moving in sync with the aerobic music. The end should be relaxing music to help you with your cool down.
- Have fun and be challenged. People who like music can add an extra dimension to their workout with aerobic music. Moving to the cadence of the music can be just plain entertaining. Plus, varying cadences of songs can help increase the challenge of the workout. Even if you don’t end up moving to the exact cadence of your aerobic music, you can still find motivation in the speed of the music.
There are many resources for aerobic music. It’s certainly possible to find the music you love and put it together to make a great playlist. Many people like to have several playlists to vary their workout. If you don’t even know where to start when it comes to creating a playlist, don’t worry. Simple online searches will yield blogs and internet forums filled with information about playlists and great songs for aerobic music collections.
When deciding to use aerobic music you’ll need to have the
right gear:
A music player. An MP3 player or and IPod are good
bets. You can upload your music and often create your own
playlists (depending on the exact model you have) and save
different music for different types of workouts
A comfortable headset. You’ll want one that you find
is comfortable and that will not interfere with your exercise
movements.
Music. You can purchase CDs of exercise music,
download playlists and individual songs from digital music
stores or go through your own collection to find the songs that
will work for you.
If you haven’t tried it yet, now is the time to find out what all the hype about aerobic music is all about.
